North of Newquay, Watergate Bay is one of my favourite haunts. It faces the Atlantic Ocean, two miles of golden sand and breathtakingly dramatic cliffs. A contemporary sports beach and spectacular backdrop for films, it still retains its raw and elemental essence. Deserted of surfers and kiters, today with the winter sun low and dazzling, Watergate Bay is for our eyes only.
